Your honeymoon should be perfect in every aspect. However, it’s becoming rare to find new remote island getaways like Yemaya that allow you to have your own piece of paradise.
We recently spent 3 nights at Yemaya Island Hideaway and Spa, a year after our original honeymoon. Needless to say, we felt like we were on our honeymoon all over again and did not want to leave Little Corn Island, which we now consider to be one of the best islands for couples we have ever found!
Although there are many reasons why Yemaya is the perfect romantic island getaway for your honeymoon, these are our top 6:
Yemaya: The best location
Yemaya is situated on the best, most pristine beach on Little Corn Island, Nicaragua. While you should definitely explore more of Little Corn, you can rest assured that you are staying in the very best spot and will want to spend as much time there as possible.
Directly from the beach, you can take a snorkel, mask and fins (included in the room rate) and within minutes be surrounded by tropical fish on the reef. Within 5 minutes of snorkelling we spotted a harmless nurse shark, a brightly coloured starfish and a stingray gliding through the crystal-clear water. This really is a rare find and incredible experience.
Not only is this the best island for couples, it is also the best spot!
Little Corn Island: Non -Cliché destination.
We have all heard about beautiful, exotic beach destinations such as the Seychelles and the Maldives for honeymooners. However, we really value going to places that are not so cliché and remain relatively untouched. Not many people have heard of the Corn Islands (which include Big Corn and Little Corn) and as a result, there are not too many tourists. It feels like your own piece of paradise.
This really is a remote romantic island getaway and you can expect to have lots of privacy and in some cases, the entire beach to yourself.
Your little corner of Luxury Island
Naturally, when you are on your honeymoon you want to experience the best of the best. You can be certain of achieving this at Yemaya; it truly is the definition of a luxury island resort. This includes everything from the service received down to the rooms themselves.
From stepping off the transfer boat you are welcomed by management, handed a refreshing towel and a beautifully prepared welcome drink. After being escorted through the jungle gardens, check-in is handled on an individual basis, so no having to stand and wait at reception.
Your luggage is placed in your room ready for your arrival, which you will be taken to by the concierge and receive a thorough explanation on everything.
The rooms themselves are impeccably decorated with Nicaraguan furnishings keeping the theme stylishly authentic. The rooms are large, bright and airy, and every single one of them is ocean facing with a large, private terrace offering stunning views of the Caribbean.
The bathrooms are decorated in the style of an indoor garden, and all come with a rainfall shower.
And seeing as it is your honeymoon, why not treat yourself to one of the 5 rooms including a private plunge pool. What better way to wake up in the morning than to step out of your beautifully decorated suite and across the terrace for a refreshing dip whilst watching the sun rise.
Little Corn Island Fine Dining
When you are on your honeymoon everything should be perfect, including the food. During our stay at Yemaya we felt like we were enjoying fine dining from breakfast right through to our evening meal.
Everything from the menu comes freshly prepared, and more often than not includes ingredients grown in the onsite garden. Everything is plated beautifully, and the service is second to none.
Breakfast is served in the beautiful, open air restaurant overlooking the beach, where we chose to stay even after we had finished, enjoying a cup of coffee and taking in the view.
For a more casual approach to lunch, you can enjoy eating at the beach bar. This offers plenty of choice to suit everyone, whilst still having the opportunity to try local food prepared perfectly.
What we most enjoyed about the evening meals was that the menu changes every evening, depending on the fresh produce the hotel has available. Typically, the menu offers 4 choices for starters and mains, even so, choosing a meal can be a challenge because these dishes are worthy of being served in a Michelin star restaurant. Do what we did and share, it’s your honeymoon after all!

Yemaya Spa
No romantic getaway is complete with treating yourself to some pampering. The spa at Yemaya was one of the highlights for us and enjoying a couple’s massage or one of the treatments and therapies would be the ideal way to round off your honeymoon at this luxury island hotel.
The spa at Yemaya is located away from the main buildings, in the lush jungle gardens, guaranteeing the privacy you want whilst enjoying the treatment.
The service in the spa lives us to the rest of the hotel. Every step of the treatment is explained thoroughly. You start with a lemongrass tea and homemade chocolates (made by the spa staff) before entering one of the private rooms for your treatment. Afterwards, you are presented with a refreshing hibiscus flower cocktail (non-alcoholic). The staff are a testament to Yemaya and undergo regular training to keep up to date with the latest practises meaning this could be one of the best massages you ever have. It certainly was for us!
Excursions in Yemaya
It’s not a romantic island getaway without a champagne sunset cruise. At Yemaya you can board their stunning Miskito sailing boat, cruise out to sea, sit back with a glass of champagne and watch the sunset.
Miskito sailing boats are only found in this area and have long been used by locals for fishing. Yemaya have chosen to use this sailing boat as it is authentic and allows you to experience some of the local culture. This was a lovely aspect to the sunset cruise and the absence of a loud boat engine made this a truly relaxing experience.
During the day you can board the same boat with a snorkel, mask and fins and be taken out to the reef. The colour of the ocean is surreal and the sea life some of the best. After you have finished snorkelling you can climb back aboard for a beer, soft drink and some watermelon from the Yemaya garden.
If you are looking for a romantic island getaway, look no further. The combination of Little Corn island being a relatively unheard of, untouched paradise along with the luxury of Yemaya is all you need to make your honeymoon an unforgettable and unique experience.
